TRUMPF’s new laser cutting machine creates chamfers during cutting

The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition automatically creates bevels on workpieces // This solution is suitable for medium to thick sheet metal and enables a wide range of precise geometric bevel shapes

TRUMPF is introducing a new machine that automatically prepares components for welding. The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can produce bevels (chamfers) on the top and bottom edge of the workpiece during cutting. This ensures optimal preparation of the weld edges and saves the subsequent work step that would otherwise be necessary. “With the TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition, users get a particularly productive universal machine with which they can integrate subsequent process steps into laser machining,” says Patrick Schüle, Product Manager at TRUMPF. The new TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can apply chamfers to sheets up to 25 mm thick. “Thanks to the unique design of the cutting unit, the machine can create chamfers of up to 50°, depending on the sheet thickness, which is more than the 45° previously standard in the industry,” explains Schüle. The machine can also handle complex bevel geometries with ease. The solution is particularly suitable for carbon steels and stainless steels.

For 2D machining of components without chamfers, users still have access to all proven TRUMPF laser cutting functions, such as Highspeed Eco for reduced gas consumption, FlexLine for reliable machining of different material qualities and EdgeLine Bevel for rounding the upper edges of the sheet metal.

For this solution, TRUMPF has equipped the cutting unit of the TruLaser 3000 Bevel Cut Edition series with two additional rotary axes, particularly compact drive motors and a nozzle specially developed for bevel cutting. Thanks to the special design, the cutting head can be tilted in all directions up to an angle of 50°. As usual, the cutting unit regulates the distance to the sheet metal, minimising the risk of collision despite the steep angle.
