A collaborative robot consumes the same energy as a household appliance | Advanced Manufacturing Madrid

  • Universal Robots has managed to optimise the energy consumption of its collaborative robots (cobots). Unlike traditional robots, collaborative robotics offer much smaller and lighter solutions, designed to work alongside people and with much lower power consumption.

Thus, Universal Robots’ cobots require between 100W and 500W of power, a consumption similar to that of any household appliance that can be found in the home. Universal Robots’ UR3e model, the smallest in the company’s product range, consumes 100W on average, the same power required by an average desktop computer. On the other hand, the UR5e model consumes about 200W, the same power required by a game console. The UR10e and UR16e models, capable of carrying 10 and 16 kilos respectively, require 350W, the same amount of power as a household blender. Finally, the largest of Universal Robots’ cobots, the brand new UR20, consumes 500W, the same power used by the most efficient washing machines.
