On the sofa with… David Marco, Head of Security in Resources and Industry X at Accenture
Advanced Manufacturing Madrid – How are companies in the industrial sector adapting to cybersecurity?David Marco – Nowadays, I believe that companies are increasingly evolving in the area of cybersecurity because it is a very important issue. It’s not just about the companies, especially industrial companies. We must consider that an attack can first halt production, and even result in the loss of human lives. Therefore, I believe that this issue is becoming more important than ever.Companies are increasingly taking into account, especially the issue of awareness. I think we are becoming more aware, which is a very important part of each of our lives.AMM – What are the future trends regarding automation?
D. Marco – I believe that industrial automation has a very important change ahead, which is the whole issue of artificial intelligence, the importance of data and information. I think that industrialization or the industrial automation part will evolve a lot in the coming years. I believe that it is a trend because in the end, everything is automated. Nowadays, the topic of artificial intelligence, data intelligence, and data analysis is evolving all around. Surely we are heading towards a very advanced industrialization, an automation with analysis and with artificial intelligence.
AMM – Considering your long experience in the sector, what are the biggest lessons learned regarding cybersecurity?
D. Marco – He defines it. You learned in the world of security that it can always happen to anyone. We have to be aware of security incidents. They happen every day, and we need to be aware that it should be another subject. That is to say, just like another subject is taught in school, I think security should be taught. It is something we must take into account in our daily lives since we are little; we are already given a tablet or a phone. And towards security, it’s something more. So I believe that the trend is that if there’s something we learn from a young age, our children when they study it is something we must consider in our day-to-day lives, that is, security starts when a person makes a mistake with an email that affects us and can lead to thefts in the workplace. On a personal level, it’s something you must have in your daily life. I think raising awareness and training in cybersecurity is a trend.
