10 technological trends that will transform companies in 2024
After 2023 was established as the year of generative AI, the Spanish multinational technology company Plain Concepts has identified the ten technological trends that will transform the way companies create value in 2024. The generalization of innovations such as quantum computing, figital convergence, datification, and Platform Engineering will translate into greater capacity for businesses to act in an agile, predictive, and optimized manner.
1. Generative AIGenerative AI has become the most influential technology of the moment, and in 2023 it has only revealed a small part of its potential. According to Plain Concepts, next year the impact of generative AI will be evident in democratizing knowledge and training across different roles and business functions, in addition to more technical areas.Gartner predicts that “by 2026, more than 80% of companies will have used generative AI APIs and models and/or implemented GenAI-enabled applications in production environments, compared to less than 5% in 2023.”This evolution will facilitate the faster commercialization of new products, greater efficiency and business productivity, a path towards hyper-personalization, and an improvement in the accessibility of the most advanced technology of the moment.
2. Cybersecurity as a Central PillarCyber attacks have emerged as the main concern for companies in recent years. Therefore, according to Plain Concepts, IT leaders must adopt a pragmatic and systemic approach that allows for continuously adjusting the priorities of cybersecurity optimization. The company recommends various basic measures, such as using encrypted services, training and raising awareness among employees, conducting pentesting, creating and updating protocols and software, validating compliance and governance, and adopting a Zero Trust approach. This model assumes potential data breaches and verifies each request as if it came from an uncontrolled network. Thus, every access request is strongly authenticated, authorized within policy constraints, and inspected for anomalies.
3. ‘Figital’ convergence and digital twins The real world and the digital one tend to converge and intertwine thanks to technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and immersive experiences. In this context, digital twins allow for changing components in the digital world until they are optimized and achieving their best version in the real world. “We are witnessing a moment in which the digital is becoming more realistic and the real much more flexible and malleable,” points out Quique Martínez, CEO of Plain Concepts. “This trend will accelerate new digital skills across all types of jobs, refine business processes, improve efficiency, and allow for exponential cost savings,” he adds.
