HP announces that its Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing technology has been used by CUPRA, the Spanish brand owned by SEAT that produces sports cars, to develop its CUPRA León Competición. This announcement highlights the power of 3D printing and digital manufacturing to transform the way the world designs and produces. CUPRA uses HP’s Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D printing solution to achieve new levels of efficiency and quality, while improving performance in competition.

The future of innovation in this industry will be shaped by 3D manufacturing, which will enable mass customization, accelerate time-to-market, and facilitate the production of unimaginable elements that will enhance the driving experience and that, today, would be impossible to achieve with traditional manufacturing,” said Ramón Pastor, global president of 3D printing at HP.
CUPRA used HP’s Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D printer to model and manufacture the hood vent, the steering wheel control module, the rearview mirror, and the brake and water cooling mechanisms for the CUPRA León Competición. These parts have been specifically 3D prototyped to take advantage of the capabilities of HP’s Jet Fusion 3D platform and have undergone the demanding development tests for the new competition model, following the same procedure used to test traditionally produced components.
“The ability to design and evaluate new printed parts in a matter of hours allows us to move much faster and select the optimal parts for production,” notes Xavi Serra, Head of Technical Development at CUPRA Racing. “Furthermore,” he adds, “the results obtained on the track have been excellent. Using HP’s Multi Jet Fusion technology marks a point of no return in our development process and will have a greater impact on our ability to compete in the future.”
La nueva solución de impresión 3D HP Jet Fusion Serie 5200 abre la puerta a la previsibilidad de la fabricación, permite optimizar costes y favorece la fabricación de muchas piezas en poco tiempo con el añadido de poder actualizarlas muy rápidamente. En este punto, Serra explica que “en la medida en que ahora el desarrollo de los vehículos se hace en paralelo, esta tecnología nos permite reaccionar rápidamente a cualquier cambio que se produzca en el proceso de diseño”.
La nueva solución de impresión 3D HP Jet Fusion Serie 5200 reúne nuevos sistemas, inteligencia de datos, software, servicios e innovaciones de materiales que permiten a los clientes escalar su producción en 3D. Aprovechando estas innovaciones, la nueva solución amplía la previsibilidad de la fabricación con un rendimiento óptimo y de alta calidad de las piezas a niveles industriales de eficiencia, precisión y repetibilidad; proporciona una excelente eficiencia de costes y productividad para los entornos de producción; y proporciona una mayor flexibilidad, un mejor tiempo de actividad, flujos de trabajo optimizados y una gestión de flotas simplificada, necesarios para los ajustes de producción de la fábrica.
