Bronymec to participate in BASQTRAIN 35, the Talgo-led project for a new generation of high-speed trains

Bronymec will contribute its polymer and composite expertise to BASQTRAIN 35, focusing on component lightweighting, design for additive manufacturing and on-demand spare parts production.

Bronymec will participate in BASQTRAIN 35, the Talgo-led project to develop a new generation of high-speed trains for trans-European services.

This participation will allow us to contribute, from the earliest development stages, expertise built over many years in the railway sector, which currently accounts for more than a third of Bronymec’s business.

Our contribution will focus on lightweighting and component development using advanced polymers, composites and additive manufacturing, across three main areas:

• Identifying components where replacing metal solutions could reduce weight while maintaining the required performance.

• Designing for additive manufacturing from the outset, using its capabilities to integrate functions, simplify assemblies and distribute material according to each part’s requirements.

• Developing digital inventory and on-demand manufacturing solutions to support spare parts availability throughout the train’s service life.

Early involvement allows materials, geometry and manufacturing processes to be assessed together, while there is still scope to improve the design and future maintenance.

We thank Talgo for including Bronymec in this project and for bringing together industry, technology and expertise to undertake this development from the Basque Country.
