The new CV5-500 is a new 5-axis machine tool developed by Intermaher and introduced in 2019.
Developed in the UK specifically for the European market, it is a competitively priced 5-axis machining center that is ideal for subcontractors, start-ups, and job shops.
The highly versatile 5-axis machine is unique in its category due to its high-rigidity bridge construction with a fully supported table that travels in the Y-axis direction beneath the bridge, offering an extremely precise and compact machining solution.
The CV5-500 features a newly designed constant-overhang headstock to maintain machining rigidity even throughout the full range of the Z-axis stroke. It is equipped with a new versatile 12,000 rpm spindle, capable of delivering a maximum output of 18.5 kW and 119.4 Nm, making it well suited for a wide range of materials. An optional 18,000 rpm spindle, which includes cooling on the X, Y, and Z axes for thermal stability, is available for high-speed applications.
The CV5-500 is equipped with a highly rigid Sankyo table, driven through a roller gear system that provides a wide rotation angle, specifically 220° on the B-axis and 360° on the C-axis. The machine offers agile performance, with rapid travel speeds of 36 m/min on the X, Y, and Z axes, and can process workpieces up to Ø500 mm x H320 mm and weighing up to 200 kg. Additionally, the Thermal Shield system maintains accuracy by applying automatic compensation to counteract temperature fluctuations.
In addition to offering high performance, the CV5-500 design prioritizes operator access and ergonomics, and specifically, the growing demand for automation. It can be easily integrated with a variety of systems with the addition of a side loading door, robot interface, and hydraulic and pneumatic connectivity options. Primary access through the front of the machine remains unobstructed by automation equipment, meaning operators retain convenient access for setups and visibility of the machining operation at all times.
At just 2,300 mm x 2,790 mm, the machine is the most compact 5-axis machine in its class, making it ideal for general subcontractors and job shops where floor space is at a premium. Special attention has been paid to minimizing the surrounding maintenance area. The coolant tank with the side-exit chip conveyor can be removed from the front of the machine to provide convenient access to key maintenance areas, while the rear of the machine can be positioned close to a factory wall to minimize floor space.
The tool magazine has a standard capacity of 30 tools and an option for 48 tools if required, while the dual-arm ATC offers a fast tool-to-tool time of just 1.3 seconds. A side-loading door to the magazine is standard, allowing easy tool replacement even during an automatic cycle. The new machine is equipped with SmoothX CNC, Mazak’s specialized 5-axis version of its SMOOTH technology.
