- The Report “Standardization Support for Digital Transformation” reveals the existence of numerous key standardization areas for achieving success in digitalization: from cybersecurity to digital enabling technologies, including talent and digital health.
The UNE Report highlights the standardization committees available to the Spanish Administration to promote the achievement of the strategic pillars of the Spain Digital Agenda 2025.Standards establish a common language and provide security for products and services, creating robust and reliable frameworks.
The Spanish Standardization Association (UNE) has published the report “Standardization Support for Digital Transformation,” which aims to help Spanish companies and governments achieve success in digitalization through technical standards.
The report reveals the existence of numerous technical standardization committees that drive digital transformation in companies, identifying 14 strategic thematic areas for standardization: from cybersecurity to digital enabling technologies, including talent and digital health, the data economy, the public sector, and the digitalization of industry.
Standards are a pillar of digital transformation, establishing a common language and providing security and trust in products and services through robust and reliable frameworks. UNE standards provide an effective response to the major challenges facing companies and provide solid support for governments in the implementation of public policies. For example, by helping to achieve the pillars of the Spain Digital Agenda 2025.
The coronavirus crisis has accelerated the digital transformation of all companies, and standardization contributes to its success by harmonizing best practices and gathering expert consensus in fields such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, cybersecurity, the cloud, and digital identification systems, among others.
An illustrative example is the UNE technical standardization committee CTN 71 on Digital Enabling Technologies, chaired by the State Secretariat for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. This committee leads key standards in this field.
Also illustrative are the UNE 0060 and UNE 0061 specifications, which, promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism, establish the requirements for being considered a digital industry, facilitating the full digitalization of Spanish industrial companies.
Furthermore, UNE channels the voices of Spanish experts from organizations to international and European forums where key standards for digital transformation are developed. As the European Commission itself recognizes, digital transformation and ecological transition policies require the support of standards.
Furthermore, these standards help companies achieve the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by embodying the consensus, collaboration, and good practices required for this global challenge.
