Cable or battery? More security in everyday life?
When talking about power tools today, we must clearly differentiate between machines connected to the mains or those powered by a battery.
Professionally, we can now find battery-powered tools that provide equivalent performance to corded tools, autonomy (we don’t depend on an electrical installation), ease of use in difficult areas, and a very important extra: SAFETY.
The risks of working with corded tools can be mechanical (blockages, breakages, etc.) just like with battery-powered tools, but when it comes to electrical risks, these are significantly reduced when talking about tools powered by direct current, the popular “battery-powered tools.”
Current brands try to provide their models with maximum electrical safety. At the same time, alternating current installations have systems that minimize the risks involved in working with this energy.
Until recently, battery-powered tools were considered a complementary item, especially as a supplement to the cable.
This has changed in recent years with the launch of battery-powered models with performance, both in terms of power and runtime, that are close to and equal to those of cable-powered models.
The utilization of the energy stored in a battery has changed significantly since the introduction of lithium in battery components to the current second-generation high-density lithium (LiHD) batteries.
What can these advances offer us? They give us the possibility of working with battery-powered machines with performance equal to that of a cable-powered machine, with the same protection systems, and with an important added benefit: SAFETY for the operator!
This leads us to a clear conclusion:
Working with a cordless tool is much SAFER!
In support of all this, Metabo launched its first 2nd-generation LiHD range in 4.0 Ah, 5.5 Ah, and 8.0 Ah, emulating the power of corded tools.
With this, Metabo aims to open up access to its cutting-edge technology in this sector to other manufacturers. This initiative, called CAS (Cordless Alliance System), aims to connect professional users to a single “interface” (battery), thus offering them access to a wide range of cordless tools in different sectors.
