About us

WD-40® was invented more than 70 years ago by three employees of the Rocket Chemical Company. The company’s name originated from WD (Water Displacer) and 40, as NASA approved the formula on the 40th attempt. Its creators were looking for a way to develop a range of degreasers and products that would prevent corrosion. The original objective was to use it in the aerospace industry to displace water and protect the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion.

Over time, company employees began taking the product home and discovered many additional everyday uses. This led Larsen to introduce WD-40® Multi-Use Product in easy-to-use aerosol cans. The first cans were launched in 1958. Within two years, the company had doubled in size, and in 1969, the Rocket Chemical Company adopted the name of its only product, WD-40®.

Over the years, customers continued to discover more and more uses for the product, some of them quite surprising. Thanks to these users, thousands of applications have been identified, which is why it became known as “the spray with 2,000 uses.”

The formula of WD-40® Multi-Use Product is known by only three people in the world and has been closely protected for many years.

In addition, the brand offers the WD-40 Specialist range, which includes essential products for general maintenance, providing cleaners, lubricants, and greases with high-performance formulations.

Within the WD-40 Specialist umbrella, we also find the dedicated WD-40 Specialist Motorbike and WD-40 Specialist Bike ranges, which offer the specific cleaning and lubrication products required for the optimal maintenance of motorcycles and bicycles, always backed by the quality guarantee of the WD-40 brand.
