FARO CREAFORM Launches MetraSCAN BLACK2 to Enhance Flexibility for Shop-Floor Dimensional Inspection

Certified, flexible 3D inspection on the shop floor to support faster and more efficient quality workflows

Lévis, Québec, August 4, 2026 — FARO CREAFORM, a business of AMETEK, Inc. and global provider of 3D scanning and portable CMM solutions, announces the launch of MetraSCAN BLACK2, a next-generation portable metrology-grade optical 3D scanner designed to deliver unmatched inspection flexibility on the shop floor.

Developed for quality control and quality assurance teams, MetraSCAN BLACK2 combines certified accuracy under real-world manufacturing conditions with the ability to support multiple inspection workflows in a single solution.

Its innovative 3-in-1 architecture integrates C-Track scanning, stand-alone scanning, and probing into one metrology-grade system. C-Track mode enables high-productivity inspection of large parts, while stand-alone mode provides maximum portability and fast deployment in confined spaces. When paired with HandyPROBE™, the system also supports probing inspections within the same workflow.

MetraSCAN BLACK2 delivers major productivity gains with 46 blue laser lines, up to 2.8 million measurements per second, and approximately 56% faster data acquisition than the previous generation. Its expanded 46.7 m³ C-Track Flex Volume allows larger parts to be inspected with fewer setups, improving efficiency and throughput.

Additional enhancements include automatic shutter functionality, single-cable connectivity, and setup assistance tools that simplify operation and reduce inspection time.
