Digital product passport for greater sustainability

A sustainability project in close collaboration between science and industry

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) will become mandatory for companies as a European Union requirement in the coming years. We have been working intensively on this topic since 2024 in collaboration with renowned research partners. The Fraunhofer IEM, the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, and the University of Paderborn are among those participating with us in the project "DualStrat: Strategic Management of Dual Transformation." We have already achieved a significant interim milestone by 2025. In the meantime, the first digital product passport has been created as a mock-up—a realistic visualization. Naturally, it's for our most well-known product, which is also one of Böllhoff's best-selling fasteners of all time: our HELICOIL® fillet insert. Strong and increasingly sustainable connections with Böllhoff's HELICOIL®. For over 70 years, our HELICOIL® thread inserts, in their various forms, have been creating strong connections. Whether in the Eagle lunar module during the first moon landing in 1969, in modern aircraft engines, or in today's wind turbines, whenever strong bolted connections are required in materials with low shear strength, such as aluminum, our HELICOIL® reinforces the corresponding thread. In various sectors, these small threaded inserts facilitate the manufacture of lightweight structures; for example, by allowing the use of lighter materials or reducing the size of components with shorter threads. It is even possible to repair damaged threads using these inserts, thus increasing the lifespan of the components or main parts.
