New geometries in Franken cutters

FRANKEN has expanded its trochoidal end mills with additional sizes, in two geometries to enable greater cutting performance.

FRANKEN trochoidal end mills are available in Jet-Cut geometry for applications in steel or cast materials and in TiNox-Cut geometry for applications in stainless steels and various heat-resistant alloys. Both versions are available in 2xD, 3xD, 4xD, and 5xD lengths for optimal adaptation of the cutting edge length to the milling process.

In 3xD and 4xD lengths, diameters 10 and 12 mm are additionally available with 6 cutting edges, diameters 16 and 20 mm even with 7 teeth. The higher tooth count allows for higher feed rates, which increases the metal removal rate and chip volume compared to tools with 5 edges. All cutting data remaining the same, the higher tooth count allows for a smoother cut and longer tool life. To meet the requirements of trochoidal machining, FRANKEN milling cutters feature vibration-minimizing features such as variable pitch and helix angle or specific cutting edge preparation. The specially developed chip breaker reduces the axial force on the tool and minimizes the difficulty of chip evacuation, especially in pockets. Short chips can be easily evacuated with compressed air or emulsion, thus preventing chip build-up. New coatings and an optimized substrate complete the features of these carbide cutters for excellent performance.
