According to the World Health Organization, ozone disinfection is one of the most effective solutions to combat the coronavirus. According to various studies, ozone is one of the most powerful disinfectants on the market, being highly effective in eliminating fungi, bacteria, viruses, and microorganisms.
The companies FTM Fluid & Thermal Management, S.L. and Alofit S.L., specialists in fluid control and air conditioning of laboratory equipment, have joined forces, knowledge, and experience to jointly develop an ozone disinfection system. With the help of their regular suppliers and partners, they have designed a portable ozone disinfection system focused primarily, and due to the need, on the healthcare sector. This type of device is truly effective in hospital rooms, clean rooms, healthcare centers, laboratories, or any space that requires maximum hygiene, and is especially suitable for ducted air conditioning systems.
Easy-to-use and highly effective systems
The ozone disinfection systems developed by both companies can disinfect rooms up to 40 m2 (100 m3) in size through easy use. All you need to do is leave the equipment on inside the room for an estimated time of about 20 minutes. It is very important that the space is completely empty, with no people present. After completing the disinfection process, we wait 10 minutes until the ozone has completely disappeared before re-entering the room. This completes the process, providing an effective, agile, and rapid response.
We can also use these devices to disinfect air conditioning systems. In these cases, we apply ozone by injecting it into the air conditioning units for 20 minutes with the air conditioning unit off. Once the process is complete, the air conditioning system ducts are fully disinfected, ensuring air quality.
The high efficiency of these devices allows for the disinfection of any type of tool, clothing, utensils, screens, or material that requires maximum hygiene. In these cases, disinfection must be carried out in an airtight space or cabinet.
As a starting point, two ozone disinfection models have been designed, centered on two systems: OZONADOR-MEDI-03-A01 (AIR) and MEDI-03-A02 (OXYGEN). Both prototypes have been successfully developed, and both companies hope to have the systems ready for commercialization soon.
Likewise, both companies recommend that to achieve the desired disinfection success, always consult with a disinfection specialist. However, both companies have established an active communication channel to resolve any questions or concerns regarding the equipment.
For this project, the leading metal processing company RNSinox | Ramón Navarrete Soria S.A., the company that contributed to the development of the metal parts for both prototypes. Founded in 1965, RNSinox offers a wide variety of services and a large production capacity, allowing it to develop any steel-based part or product.
According to Manuel Fernández, CEO of Fluid & Thermal Management, S.L., ozone will play a very important role in the market, being a highly exportable solution for various sectors. “We will soon see ozone-based solutions in sectors such as the hospitality industry, the food industry, or in cleaning companies as a more effective and powerful disinfection measure.”
Furthermore, José Fito, CEO of Alofit S.L., places special emphasis on the application of this type of system in air conditioning and cooling solutions, given his specialization, since “ozone guarantees greater hygiene in cold storage and refrigeration rooms, as well as the maintenance and quality of food to a greater extent.”
