Band taps, specific applications

At SESA TOOLS, we have been developing products for years that are designed to work with applications that require specialization, either due to the difficulty of machining the materials being worked or the need to optimize manufacturing processes, whether due to the required quality, unit costs, or completion times for the necessary operations. Along these lines, in the THREADING section, one of the most extensive in our cutting tool catalog, which can be found on our website, we have developed the range of BAND THREADING TAPES, with a color code that indicates the application where, due to the characteristics of the tools, the optimization of production processes is most significant. One of the most widely used materials is STAINLESS steel. These steels are difficult to machine due to their low temperature conductivity, especially in austenitic steels, and because their tendency to stick to the tool can cause the cutting edges to break. This GREEN BAND series is made of powder-metallurgical HSS-E-PM, with a homogeneous structure, offering high toughness, greater wear resistance, and greater temperature resistance. In addition, the HARDLUBE coating provides a high-quality contact surface, a very low coefficient of friction, facilitating sliding on stainless steel, excellent wear resistance, and the ability to withstand temperatures up to 800°C. These features allow us to extend tool life, increase cutting speed, and prevent adhesion of the machined material to the tool, achieving the desired high performance. We are increasingly being asked for tools for working with very hard materials such as HARDOX, wear plates, etc. Their high hardness alone makes machining, chip removal, and deformation difficult. To achieve this, we have incorporated the BLACK BAND series, with which we can thread materials with tensile strengths of up to 1400 N/mm2, and even higher with the appropriate threading parameters. This range is also manufactured in HSS-E-PM, which provides the aforementioned advantages. In this case, its FUTURA coating increases the tool’s surface hardness, reduces friction, and increases hot chemical resistance. This allows us to extend the tool’s life, increase its cutting speed, and allow us to advance smoothly, as required by such high-hardness materials. You may be interested in threading ALUMINUM. Generally, it has low tensile strength, intermediate to long chips, and adheres to the tool. We have developed our YELLOW BAND series. The taps in this series are made of HSS-Co5% high-speed steel, with high toughness and high performance. They are also coated with ALUSPEED, which has self-lubricating properties.
