Advanced Manufacturing – From EIT Manufacturing’s perspective, what are the most effective approaches to reducing industrial emissions?
Alejandro Moral: At EIT Manufacturing, we bring together the interests of various stakeholders, including research centers, industrial players, and universities. We firmly believe that only by aligning the efforts of these actors can we create opportunities to advance on the path toward decarbonization.
Through this network, we can develop solutions to support the majority of industries in their decarbonization processes. Let me provide some concrete examples.
One example is the formation of working groups. We have several groups in Europe focused on topics that affect the entire industrial sector, one of which, as expected, is Net Zero. In this group, we bring together stakeholders and partners to co-create sustainability initiatives. Our partners then prioritize which initiatives are most important to them based on their specific needs. Crucially, feedback from these working groups is used to design EIT Europe’s industrial programs.
We also contribute to raising awareness and identifying actionable steps to reduce resource use. This includes optimizing industrial processes and integrating circularity principles into industry. Ultimately, our goal is for our partners to reduce their energy and material consumption.
Returning to the topic of the EIT Manufacturing network and its members, this network enables us to identify startups working on decarbonization or scout for emerging technologies.
Finally, one of the key activities we undertake to support Net Zero is through programs such as the EIT calls I mentioned earlier and the services we offer. Our ultimate goal is to scale sustainable solutions, ensuring they reach the market faster and amplify their impact. In other words, we aim for a more immediate and widespread positive impact, enhancing our partners’ industrial competitiveness.
