Austenitics Stainless Steel
Austenitic stainless steels contain a significant amount of chromium, and sufficient nickel or manganese to “stabilise” the austenite micro-structure that gives these steels good formability and ductility (and makes them non-magnetic). A typical composition is 18% chromium and about 8% nickel, as found in the popular 304 grade. Some 300 series stainless steels, such as the 316 grade, also contain molybdenum. This increases the material’s resistance to acids, pitting and crevice corrosion. All austenitic grades can be highly durable and corrosion resistant and have high ductility, low yield stress, relatively high tensile strength and good weldability. As such, they have a very wide range of uses.

Ferritic Stainless Steel
KARA is Aperam’s Brand of Ferritic Stainless Steels. Unlike other stainless steels, the KARA range doesn’t contain nickel and is thus immune from the erratic price fluctuations of this alloying elements. Well-known standard ferritic grades 409 (K09), 410 (K10) and 430 (K30) are used in such applications as washing-machine drums and exhaust systems. More recently-developed ferritic grades, such as 439 (K39) and 441 (K41), meet an even broader range of requirements. They can be formed to more complex shapes and joined using most conventional joining methods, including welding. Thanks to the addition of molybdenum, ferritic grade 444’s (K44) resistance to localised corrosion is at least equal to that offered by austenitic grade 316.

Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex is a family of stainless steel grades that contain a mix of austenitic (γ) and ferritic (α) phases. While the ferritic phase provides the strengthening, the austenitic lattice enables ductility and toughness. It’s this two-phase structure that gives duplex stainless steels an elevated yield strength. In fact, duplex stainless steels are nearly twice as strong as austenitic grades. This mixed structure also means duplex have good resistance to both stress corrosion cracking and intergranular corrosion, all while maintaining a sufficient level of ductility. Furthermore, duplex’s low nickel content and high strength enable the use of thinner sections, bringing significant cost benefits to the end user.

Martensitic stainless steel
Comprised of 0.1% carbon and 10.5 to 17% chromium, martensitic stainless steel is mainly used for tooling, cutting tools and springs. For kitchen knife blades and utensils used in food preparation, we recommend either the MA3M grade, which contains molybdenum, or the MA5 grade, which has a high chromium content. Both options offer improved corrosion resistance and the possibility of obtaining high levels of hardness in the hardened and tempered condition.

Aperam Infinite
Aperam infinite™ is our new sustainability brand for all our near-zero* footprint premium products, related services and solutions. Achieving a reduction of up to 85%¹ in carbon emissions compared to the industry average. Coils & Sheets
A Complete Range Our hot- and cold-rolled stainless coils and sheets are available up to 2 meters wide and in a number of grades: austenitics (S300), austenitics containing manganese (S200), duplex, KARA ferritics (S400) and martensitics. Each of our solutions provides the technical performance, safety in service and economic competitiveness demanded by such industries as automotive, household appliances, food processing, catering, heating, architecture, building and construction, desalination, oil & gas, nuclear, chemical processing and transportation.

Flat Bars
A wide range of grades, dimensions and finishing equipment – including polishing and machine edging capabilities – means we are well positioned to satisfy all customer needs. Not only are we able to provide flat bars (from 2,000 to 6,000 mm in length, austenitic standard grades), available with machined edges, we can do so in small quantities (from 500 kg) and on short lead times (within 10 days). Our most popular grades and thicknesses are always in stock, meaning we can supply your order within two weeks. We’re also constantly producing surplus material, so don’t hesitate to check with us to see what’s in stock.
