Luma Service
We redesign parts to reduce weight and cost through simulation and design for additive manufacturing.
Luma Service is Bronymec’s engineering service for designing and redesigning lighter industrial components, with the aim of reducing material consumption, manufacturing costs and operating costs while meeting the functional requirements of each application.
Luma means “feather” in Basque. Its structure inspires our approach to design: placing material where it is needed to combine low weight, stiffness and strength.
We combine polymer expertise, finite element analysis (FEA) and design for additive manufacturing. Starting with the loads, supports and operating conditions of the part, we assess how to modify its geometry and reduce weight without compromising the required performance.
Many components retain shapes originally developed for machining or moulding. Additive manufacturing allows some of these geometries to be reconsidered, incorporating internal structures and distributing material in ways that are difficult to achieve through conventional processes. Making use of these possibilities requires redesigning the part while also accounting for the constraints of the additive process.
The benefits can extend beyond the component itself: a lighter part can reduce loads on mechanisms and actuators, simplify handling or decrease the energy needed to move it. The improvement depends on the part’s function and the equipment into which it is integrated.
With Luma Service, we assess what redesign can offer each application and evaluate its technical and economic feasibility before manufacturing.
