Danfoss optimizes its production with Gravotech laser marking solutions
Danfoss faced critical challenges in its industrial marking process: ensuring durability on demanding surfaces, marking at different levels, and preventing counterfeiting. To respond, it implemented 2D Data Matrix codes, relying on Gravotech, a leader in versatile and efficient laser marking solutions.
Founded in 1933, Danfoss is a global leader in heating, cooling, and energy efficiency, with more than 40,000 employees in 100 countries. Its main challenge was ensuring the traceability of millions of parts in difficult conditions, such as wet or oily surfaces, and combating logo counterfeiting. It also required the flexibility to mark valves between 30 and 150 mm, with an adjustable Z-axis and a safe installation for operators.
The collaboration with Gravotech began in 2013 with the first fiber laser for hydraulic valves. In 2015, the F-series and 3D lens technology enabled marking automation, eliminating manual intervention. In 2019, the integration of Makino's Flexible Manufacturing System with robotic arms consolidated automation and boosted laser performance. Danfoss currently has eight Gravotech machines.
Remarkable results. The production cycle was reduced from four days to one, achieving more than 1.2 million marked valves per year. Each laser saves approximately 2,800 hours per year—equivalent to four months of work—operating 18 hours a day and processing up to 1,200 parts per day. With a single operator, 10 valves can be marked at a time and a complete batch can be completed in 45 minutes.
A promising future. This strategic alliance has increased Danfoss's productivity and competitiveness, which plans to extend the modernization to other processes, consolidating Gravotech as a key partner on its journey toward full automation.
